ACON failing LGB Australians

LGB Alliance Australia has done a word count on various keywords in ACON annual reports. ACON are Australia’s largest LGBTQ+ organisation, our equivalent of Stonewall in the UK.

The results are interesting because they prove what we have suspected; a much larger emphasis is on trans content with much less emphasis on LGB content.

We counted the words lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex from annual reports going back to 2004-2005.
The chart below shows the number of time each word was used in any particular annual report over this time span.

What is particularly interesting (not to mention alarming) is how there is virtually no mention of the word lesbian anymore. Bisexual also consistently gets little mention, although currently more than lesbian. And the use of the word gay is consistently dropping.

And it is very obvious that the word Trans now takes precedence in terms of content and presumably emphasis in services.

We know who ACON work for and it is no longer for the LGB which is why it is so important that the LGB Alliance Australia is here for you.
