2024 has been an eventful year for many, including when it comes to the rights of lesbians, gays and bisexuals in Australia. This list recaps three of the year’s lowest points, followed by three of its greatest moments.

The Victorian Government plans to introduce new anti-vilification protections for protected attributes, including "sexual orientation", "sex" and "gender identity".

LGB Alliance Australia holds deep concerns about crimes and anti-social behaviour directed at individuals on the basis of same-sex attraction. We agree that more should be done to promote social cohesion and support victimised individuals.

Last weekend there was a trans only event held in Melbourne and we’re trying to work out why the TQ can have their own events but the LGB can’t have single-sex events. We wrote to Minister Shing to see if we can get an answer.

One of our researchers has found that none of these state or territory governments allocated any grants in recent years to community initiatives specifically for lesbian, gay and/or bisexual individuals.  

The decision in the Tickle vs Giggle case shows the disappointing failure of the amendments to the Sex Discrimination Act.

We have written to the Attorney General about the failings of the Sex Discrimination Act on sex based rights.

The Lesbian Action Group are going to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal against the Australian Human Rights Commission who rejected their application for a single sex exemption.
